BESA

BESA or the British Embassy Support Association, is a voluntary, non-profit organisation, which aims to provide support to British Embassy and Government exchange personnel and those who accompany them. We aim to welcome and get to know new members, provide relevant information and on-going social support through BESA sponsored groups and activities.
BESA donates to agreed charitable organisations.

BESA’s Construction
The BESA Group consists of:
  • An Honorary president
  • A chairperson Ex-officio member (usually the Defence Attaché’s spouse)
  • A secretary
  • A treasurer
  • Section representatives from FCO, Civilian and BDS , Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force
  • The FCO and BDS Community Liaison Officers
  • Area representatives and a male spouse representative
It is organised into 3 groups: The Executive Committee, Section Representation, and Area Representation

The Executive Committee

The ex-com organises a regular programme of events. There are coffee mornings, demonstrations, etc., outings, Christmas parties for the children and we accept the kind invitation of the Ambassador’s spouse to coffee in the Residence at Christmas and in the spring for the Anglo-American Coffee Morning. It is also the responsibility of the Committee to represent its members to the Administrations.

Section Representation

Section reps raise issues of interest to their section within BESA, they welcome new arrivals, help with settling in and
any problems that may arise, and ensure that the new arrival is contacted by their Area Rep. They may also provide an ongoing point of contact in case of later difficulties.

Area Representation

Consists of representatives of the 6 main  geographical areas in which Embassy families live. The area reps contact new arrivals to provide local information, help with transport
to BESA meetings and events, and introductions to other people in the
area through organised meetings in their areas.
Don’t miss out!
With the best will in the world it might happen that someone is not contacted by their representative either because they are away on leave or someone has slipped through the net. Our sincere wish is to welcome and to get to know everyone as they arrive. Please help us to help you.
This is a very mobile society and we try to keep in contact.

Please Contact Us
We welcome contacts from new arrivals at anytime. Please ask your unit admin officer or equivalent for contact details of your BESA rep or consult the latest newsletter (if you have one).  If you have any queries at all please do Contact Us.
