Savannah Georgia
A beautiful historic town, famous for it's garden squares. 22 of the original 24 squares remain. A very easy town to walk around, but I would recommend one
of the trolley bus tours to get your bearings and to decide what to go back & see The city market area, which is towards the river, has many , many restaurants. If you are fond of crab cakes then don't miss Belfords on W St. Julian Street. Here, as at many of the restaurants in the area you can eat on outside patio areas & watch the world go by. A particularly pretty time to visit is Springtime, when the squares look beautiful with their
many coloured azaleas.
There are many places to stay from the usual chains to more unusual individual properties. We spent a very relaxing one night at the Mansion
on Forsyth Park The rooms were luxurious. We also ate in the restaurant, which is open to the public. The evening meal was outstanding (on the expensive side, but food & service were both excellent). However the breakfast was not so good. Over priced and the service was incredibly slow.
If you do find yourself at the end of town where Forsyth Park is located then there is an excellent Italian restaurant hidden away in the back streets. Leoci's
Trattoria, 606 Abercorn street. Inside is a tiny restaurant, so it is worth booking in advance. There is outside seating too on a decking area
which seats about 60. Chef run with homemade pastas.
